Mediterranean
San Rafael, CAThis one third of an acre space had one very major challenge - the hill. The original retaining wall holding the hillside in the rear was very close to the edge of the pool and the hill itself was very steep and fairly inaccessible. By pushing back the hill and grading it in tiers to create flat areas, we were able to create an upper garden area above the salt and solar swimming pool, basketball hoop, patio and lawn. A sun-deck, ten-bed vegetable garden, rose garden, fruit trees, meandering path, hammock house and waterfall comprised the new upper garden’s secret treasures. Custom tile in the entry courtyard and a gorgeous Tuscan stone wall and staircase in the rear emphasized the Mediterranean feel of this fabulous family garden, with planting garnishing everything perfectly.
