Sunny Sanctuary

A large lawn was removed from the backyard of this property as a water-efficient strategy.  ‘Arizona’ flagstone patio and a wooden deck were installed on one side, to provide plenty of space for social gatherings, and on the other, a thriving, raised-bed organic vegetable garden was established.  With fruit trees on the perimeter and insect-beneficial plants among the vegetables, the veggie garden was completed with organic top soil and compost.  Bursts of color surround the whole back yard with planting choices that do well in the sandy soil, sunshine and erstwhile coastal fog.
